Fitzcharming Collects – Installment Three – Ethan Allen Furniture

Here's another look at one of my personal collections, outside of my charm collection of course which I need to get busy and organize so I can feature them here more regularly.
For your viewing enjoyment I've snapped a few photos of my dining room. Disclaimer: my walls are not pink, they are the same color as my Mexican tile floors. I don't take indoor pictures well it seems. I have a long skinny table in the room that seats 12 and around the perimeter of the room I have an assortment of Ethan Allen Custom Room Plan modular pieces that I've assembled throughout the years. These were made in the mid 1900's and came in an assortment of finishes including maple, antique pine, white, yellow, and black. The first piece I purchased was a maple sewing cabinet (not pictured) that I fell in love with so that determined which color I went with.
The lower cabinets came in a widths from 24" to 60" and there were coordinating top units in the same sizes. Some of the functional pieces that are listed in the various catalogs I have are: the previously mentioned Sewing Center, a Music Cabinet, TV Base Unit, Four Drawer Apothecary Chest, Study Center, along with the usual three and four drawer chests and corner units.
One could also choose between laminate finished top surfaces which were handy when outfitting a child's room, or tops with a wooden finish. Mine are wooden finished. There is one piece I still am looking for and it's a lower end cabinet that curves in a 1/4 pie shape that gives the wall unit a rounded finished end.
These serve me well for storing my collections of dishware and serving pieces (to be shown in a future article). And the best part is I have tons of space in the upper cabinets to showcase some of my other collections. Until the next time, have fun collecting and displaying.

This weekend at a yard sale, my mom bought me a sewing cabinet for $50 for my upcoming birthday. It is GORGEOUS!! When we got it home and began cleaning it up I realized it was an Ethan Allen piece and I new immediately we got a deal! I’ve been trying to research the piece but I’m not finding anything. I was wondering if you could help me out. It is solid maple and has 2 shutter doors on the front, the left one is a bi-fold type. It has 3 drawers inside on the left and a pull-out table thing. It also has pegs for holding thread on the inside of the door. I am absolutely in love with it, but would like to know the year, it’s worth, etc… Thank you so much!! Feel free to email me!
I have a sewing cabinet that I bought new for $500. It is a beautiful piece that can be used in different ways. We bought another used one that my husband uses to tie flies.
Oh wow that’s a unique way to use the sewing cabinet. Mine is used, it was well used when I bought it but I love it.
